Sarah has worked with the Institute of Physics on gender balance initiatives and the Association for Science Education on inclusive teaching practices. They have also collaborated with Schools OUT to develop resources to integrate LGBTQ+ scientists into the curriculum. Sarah created STEM for Queer Youth, connecting LGBTQ+ scientists with young people, and co-founded Aces in STEM, a community for asexual individuals in science fields. Their work in EDI was recognised by the National Diversity Awards in 2022 when they were shortlisted for the Positive Role Model Award – LGBT award.
Sarah brings eleven years of science communication experience and six years of EDI consultancy to help organisations understand why LGBTQIA+ inclusion in STEM is so important. They work with schools, businesses, charities, and museums to analyse data, identify priorities, and implement inclusive practices. Through training programmes at organisations like Tesco and AstraZeneca, Sarah has helped teams understand asexuality and create environments where all employees feel valued. Their approach combines their personal narrative as a mixed Filipino asexual person with research-backed strategies for meaningful change.
Audiences learn practical methods for making workplaces and classrooms more inclusive of LGBTQ+ people, discover underrepresented scientists, and gain confidence addressing identity topics they may have previously avoided. Sarah delivers these insights through engaging presentations that balance facts, statistics, lived experience, and even science demonstrations.
Book Sarah to address the gaps in your organisation's diversity initiatives and create genuine inclusion for communities often overlooked in EDI work.
Topics, Sessions And Talks
Sarah Cosgriff examines the persistent lack of visibility and representation of LGBTQIA+ people within science education and research. Drawing on their background in STEM engagement and their lived experience, they highlight the contributions of queer scientists, explore the impact of discrimination, and challenge assumptions about who belongs in science. The session connects personal narrative with systemic insight, showing how inclusive practices can strengthen learning, innovation, and participation across STEM sectors.
Sarah Cosgriff explores one of the most invisible and misunderstood sexual orientations, drawing on research, workplace data, and personal experience. They unpack what asexuality means, why asexual people remain underrepresented in policy and practice, and how this affects wellbeing at work and in education. Blending clarity, honesty, and humour, Sarah offers a compelling perspective on inclusion, identity, and belonging, equipping organisations with practical ways to better support asexual individuals.
